"JOBS" by Pete Sipple Written for the Psion Series 3 (March 1994) This is a short procedure that was designed as a "To-Do"-type task manager. It was written for the Series 3 to overcome the limitations of the 3's Agenda application , but with the introduction of the Series 3a's enhanced Agenda, it is really only useful to those who haven't got the latest Psion product. This procedure is deliberately very basic, and does not have any on-line help. The reason that the procedure has been kept simple, is to keep it small, so's not to waste precious RAM space with documentation. The procedure should be fairly explanatory Jobs to do can be classified as Work or Home. It allows for weekly, fortnightly, monthly or yearly repeats. It does not have any interface to the Psion Alarms, so you have to run the procedure to see the day's jobs. As mentioned before, the procedure is not a "bells and whistles" procedure, and was designed to help my failing memory. If it proves useful to even one other user, then I'll be happy. If you have any comments or suggestions regarding this procedure, please let me know. I'll be happy to hear from you. I can be contacted by Email at the following addresses: psipple@cix.compulink.co.uk (checked daily) Compuserve: 100333,3266 Although this procedure is not over user-friendly, it is at least fairly stable. However, I cannot accept any liability for loss, damage, or missed birthdays, as a result of using this procedure. JOBS.OPO is released into Public Domain, and I am not looking for any payment for this procedure. I am, however, interested to know whether you have found this procedure useful, and whether you have any suggestions for improvements. Please feel free to Email me with comments! The Manual ========= There isn't one! To an extent, the program speaks for itself, and I'm not a great manual writer, but below are a few of the features, and how to use them. This is as close to a manual as I'm prepared to go at the moment, but if people genuinely find this procedure useful, I will certainly consider a re-write of both the program and the manual. Please let me know if you have any questions or suggestions. Find ==== By specifying an entry in the FIND: field, you can search for one of the three options below: Today - events that JOBS.OPO thinks should be done today Jobs to do - displays any outstanding job - whether it's a dated or undated item. Will ignore anything with a date after today's date All - steps through the database item by item. Ignores Classification. If no FIND: clue is enters, JOBS.OPO will step though each entry that matches the timeband specified. Classification ============== Each entry has a classification, which specifies at what time of day you can see each item. At present, three classifications exist: Home 6pm-7am and weekends Work 7am-6pm Monday to Friday General Visible at all times Done ==== Selecting an item as "done" is done by pressing "D" from the find screen. Once an item has been marked as "done", JOBS.OPO will check whether the item has a "Repeat" set, if it HAS a repeat, the next repeat date is calculated, and the item will only appear again on the next due date. If no Repeat is set, the item vanishes, and can only be seen using All from the Find option. Entering new items ================== New items can be either TIMED or UNTIMED. Untimed will cause a NAG after a certain number of days, specified in the "Nag Every" box. Entering "0" will not create a "Nag", but will cause the entry to appear in the "To-do" option of Find Timed entries give you the option to repeat an entry, and also to give an advance warning.
